The Heart That Fed

A wide-ranging collection of poems, The Heart That Fed is the third book by Timur Shah. In it, he sets aside the stories and essays of his previous two books in favour of an exploration of a different kind - putting honesty into words, as answers escape him.

Over a period of five hundred days, from autumn 2023 to winter 2025, Timur Shah wrote a daily poem, consciously refusing to polish them afterwards. The result is not a collection in the conventional sense, but a diary in verse - raw and unguarded, capturing each day’s mood as it arrived: loneliness, hope, friendship, dread, wonder, boredom, elation, and long reflective stretches of quiet in between.

Written while a university student, the poems chart a young man’s struggle to locate himself - in crowded rooms and empty ones; on late-night walks through unfamiliar cities; in conversations that change everything; and silences that change nothing. The refusal to revise is as deliberate as it is principled… each poem is a time capsule, preserving the version of the writer on a specific day, before growth or hindsight could smooth the edges away.
